Klowunji is known by various other names: nigella, kalonji or even kalo jeere. It looks a lot like jeera or cumin so it’s easy to confuse the two. But unlike cumin which has a spicy and earthy taste, klowunji black onion seeds are slightly bitter. Some describe it as having a slight burnt poppy or onion-like taste.
